shit.............
thought of going to watch it tonight...

but dont mind la
just wanna see how the whole thing goes..

still..i guess the alien could do some research before invading the earth :D with such advance technology, they couldn't detect any bacteria that is deadly to them? they din do their homework la....:D

Very well said, Scorceror and silverfish.

lampasula, read Scorceror's explaination about the bacteria.

The tripods were already infected so it's probably best to assume that their shells became weaker, as their mechanism is different?

Anyway I can see where you're coming from. It's natural for movies to have loopholes, as long as there are no major, major ones.

To those who haven't watched WOTW, if you're expecting for something like Men In Black or Independence Day, you probably won't enjoy this. Btw, the movie was never advertised as such.

The only major letdown for me was the ending, but I've learnt that it's similar to the book.

This version of War of the Worlds is a remake la. I saw the previous version of this movie before. That's why I know the Aliens will die due to bacteria. In the older version it was due to the common flu i think...

yup u r rite.........

Watched the movie.Pretty impresive for me,gonna watch the show from the point of a normal citizen in this kind of disaster. It is not that type of like independance day or MIB where alien invade complot, good guy came to and destroy and happy always.

yeah the end of the show is abit fast, but well it is the same as the book.Rather meaningfull too,at last earth do love us.^_^

the lifeform theory makes some sense for the scene where tom cruise killed one of the "tripods"...since i didnt read the novel i cant judge using facts from the novel...i judge using common sense as a frequent movie goer

but....even without the shield, i bet it wouldnt die so easily...such sophisticated equipment and lightyears ahead of our technology....wouldnt the aliens figured out that there might be times when the shield wouldnt work and make the body "slightly" stronger?

Without the shield the "tripod" is worse than an Abrams tank which is so primitive for thier standards...

those tripods were buried million years ago, guess they dont have the chance to upgrade them, LOL

But how come they didnt mention in the epilogue that the humans will start building their cities underground?
I dunno what do u think but i prefer listening to the radio drama which my dad has on record.
The signature music of war of the world on the radio dram is pretty good to.

But i do find the ending kinda abrupt on the remake but it was pretty subtle, so its great anyway.

i would say teh overall fi;lm was impressive. there might be some not logical points but those are flaws and mistake la.
my cooments on teh film was, the directed fail to show teh timeline. to concentrate on the visual and the character. i don;t know how long it takes.

sighs..but i still love the fil;m

i love to watch the movie again!! but the ending is a bit stupid! how come the aliens technology can't protect themselves againts microbs and viruses? suppose they will study every inch of it as they've been preparing since million ages ago...anyway i think it's a good movie

The story is based on a classic story book written by HG Wells... the movie simply but follows the book's storyline. Can't blame it for the crappy ending... i kinda read the book before, so i kinda knew the whole story the whole time, and I already knew how the ending is going to be like even before I watched it. hahaha... aliens cought the common cold and retreated!!

As a matter of fact... this is more like a 'remake'... as this movie has already been made before around the 1950s.

Other HG Wells classic stories whick might ring a bell:
-The Time Machine
-Invisible man

i think u haven't watch Mel Gibson "The Sign" that so called so advanced aliens that invaded earth will die when their body are exposed to H2O... thats even dumb. Why the fark such an advance creature from outerspace wanted to invade a planet which their body cannot take sumthing which is so harmful to them... in a cantonese saying "go die for free"

If u ever notice.. I've gathered some facts on alien movies,

1. All aliens trying to invade or come across Americans will always die.
2. An American gal is able to destroy millions of aliens including the queen using a toothpick or simply farting.
3. All aliens have very inefficient plans when they tried to invade America.
4. America will always win after the rest of the world already have been conquered by aliens.
5. Steve Irwin can catch a huge croc... but since he is an Australian.. a retarded alien can still beat him to death. Wherelse, Will Smith can punch a couple of aliens to death easily.

Movies these days can't be always logical or always based on facts... it is fiction... what is fiction? lots of crap of course. therefore... it's called entertainment. if u guys wanted logic shows or movies.. i suggest u guys can watch Discovery Channel :D

Noticed that as well

ftzone,
noticed that as well. good one. but all's good in the name of entertainment. Not many movies will follow a book, however we got to give credit to spielberg for following the book as closely as possible.

perhaps some of u guys can clear some of my doubts:

- where were those thunder came from?spaceship? not shown during the movie also.
- i know the tripods were buried long time ago. but wat about those alien in it?they arrive thru the thunder? speed of light trnsport?
- As the movie begin, the back vocal (morgan freeman?)did mention tht 'they' r observing us, every move, everything. but how come 'they' dint take into account those virus?

the anwers to your question.
- There was no thunder in the movie, only lighting. The aliens traveled in the lighting, speed of light. In the book, they arrived in large cyclinders, which the people though to be shooting stars or meteorites.
- What he meant was, they were "observing" us only. Observing our way of life, our achievements, our failures. In short, just spying on us. If there experimented on us, they would have detected our immune system. The lines spoken by morgan freeman are also present in the beginning part of the book.
- Bacteria cannot be seen with the naked eye. In the book, the aliens are from the planet mars. Mars has its own bacteria very much different from the ones on Earth.
