Am using MB quart component speakers for a year now. Lately, the tweeters have been having cracking or distortion at certain tune. I'm not sure how to describe it but it's like static noise as if the tweeter was played with too high freq.

i was wondering if that could be a sign of tweeters failing cause the sound produced is too bright ( those who use MB quart speakers will know what I mean ). Is there anything I can doto remedy it?

1) are you powering the comps using an amp or just by the built-in amp from your HU??
If you power them just from the HU, chances are you had been sending clipped signals to the comps.

2) are you running your comps active??
If yes, chances are you are high passing the tweeters too low.

1) I'm running it through an amp. I'm not sure what you mean I'm sending clipped signals. I don't mean that it randomly cracks though, there are certain part of a music that will make it crack as if it couldn't take it.

2) I believe the comps are active. By active you mean that are my comps running through a crossover right?? How do I avoid high passing the tweeters too low?? What does that mean actually??

1) If you are using an amp, then the chance of sending clipped signals is rare.
2) Running active means you are not using the passives.
Anyway, I'll be having a mini session with the Myvi members on ICE lessons in Sri Petaling shortly from now. Time is from 2pm.
If you are interested, I'll take a look at your system and hopefully will help to rectify the problem.
Call me if you have the time--012-3852368.

I can't make it. I'm in Penang now. :( Will be down to KL next week though. It'll be good if you can have a look at it.

Then contact me while you are down here.

I think maybe you can try to replace the Bi-Polar capacitor in your passive crossover. failing caps can cause the tweets to produce cracking noise.

bro, try with diff cd..if u are using cd-r or pasar malam cd, then it may be the prob..last time i use 1 cd-r to test my system..test 1 week also got the sound..later found out actually the cd got prob when burn it..

I'm using original CDs to play. The cracking noise only happens at certain freq/portion of the track. Not all the time. I can replay the area that cracks.....

Concept, it's not only one side of the tweeter that is doing it. It's doing it on both sides. :S
