hi guys,
just wondering if i install a new set of air filter to replace the stock filter box, would there be any performance gain? bear in mind i'm still running on stock exhaust. last time around, mod kaki's tell me that a standalone air filter or standalone exhaust modifications won't kick up any horsepower gain instead will make it even worst. only air filter + exhaust modification will push a few horsepower higher. please advise.

depends....a better breathing car will always give better response....a good setup of airfilter, cold air intakes, extractor, exhaust is the 1st step in power increase....airfilter alone wont give any significant gains....an incorrect setup(no heatshield, shaking hoses) will make ur car suffer more than stock setup....open pod have this tendency of sucking hot air...and hot air is not good for ur car...a proper cold air intake from the front and a good heatshield will take care of this....cheers

HKS Super Power Flow=good!

visited this website on the comparison between 4 famous air filters. blitz, HKS, K&N and apexi. apparently apexi was tested out to be the best. clean filtration and good hp gains.

anyways, so u guys suggest that i do up filter, extractor and exhaust?? i'm just worried about the excessive noise if i do up the exhaust so i'm looking for a quick fix just by fixing up the air filter.

Biggest power gains will be mesh of foam filters but a bit dirty as they suck in more air. Apexi would be a good balance for more airflow and to keep engine cleaner.

Highly recommend you install a heatshield so that your pod filter does not suck in hot air, which will equate to power loss.

Later can think of changing exhaust to complete the breathing system for your car.

doing up exhaust doesnt mean that ur car will be noisy...depends on ur own preference....there are tons of exhaust that is quiet...such as Mugen Twin Loop...provides good backpressure while maintaining average sounds decibel....what u can really look for is the size of ur exhaust piping....that will make the gases escape faster....not the back muffler alone....

This is the website isn't it? :D

 I don't believe in open pod filters in a daily driven car application. If it were good R&D could have done it and would have saved a lot of money.

I think Satanic covered it quite good. The heat shield is a practicality in normal driving.

At the same time, if your car spends ALL it's time in a traffic jam, then it may be worth considering a replacement element filter.

Scudracer, a stock car does not necessarily mean it's engine is optimized. Saving money for users and making money from users are 2 totally separate things. Otherwise, our Proton cars would be a match for any imported car... :)
