"Caliber" ICE Product

900 watt max the actual power is 180watt RMS only and 1000 watt max is 200 RMS, you have to buy some woofer that is almost same power with it. If amp power greater than woofer, then the woofer will blow, if woofer power is greater than amp, then after a while the amp will shutdown to cool down.

this i found at mohawk website..
so it mean the caliber 900 watt amp can power orange 10"
and the 1000watt amp can power orange 12"
izit rite?
hehehe
sorry ya new bie here..

oh so the amp only can power one 10" woofer?

so what woofers suit the amp best
10" orange mohawk woofer
somemore?

not a problem, as long as the power rating for both of them is more or less the same.

Yeah... hi guys saw u people discussing abt the cailber ICE, for my car I am using mostly all caliber : preamp, component, and also getting amplifier soon.

I really recommend caliber as they are good, not bad for the price you are going to pay, they are not that very cheap but its reasonable and a good start off. The amp rated 900watts 2chnnl can drive up to 12" (1pair) of subs of a single coil, very powerful also.

Hope this give you more confidence to buy cailber. Trust me you save alot !
:dancing2:

dual voice coil, some people said that the sound that produce by DVC woofer is not that good compare to single voice coil woofer...

Caliber? I can only say I like Caliber power cables. Thick core, very value for money. Speakers? Pre-amps? No way. Spend on buying good 2nd hand speakers and stuff. Alpine Type-S or Type-R speakers (they cost around 300 to 400 bucks 2nd hand). I've no experience with the amps so I can't comment.

As for woofer matching and amps.. you need to look at the ratings. For example :

Mohawk Orange 12" is 200 Watts RMS at 4ohms.

So look at your amp. Does it have mono output? How to tell? Look at the ratings. For example :

JL 300/2 2 channel amplifier
Rated Power (2 Channel Mode): 150 W RMS x 2 @ 1.5 ohm
Rated Power (Bridged Mono): 300 W RMS x 1 @ 4 ohm

This means the JL amp is 150watts RMS at 1.5 ohms for stereo 2 channel. Since Subwoofers are mono, you'll want to look at the bridged mono ratings which is 300 watts RMS at 4ohms.

That basically means this amplifier will feed 300 watts of power into a the Mohawk Orange since they are both 4ohms only. Always look at RMS, not max power or whatever.

That's what we call "sub + amp matching".

Subs have 2 types, SVC (Single voice coil) and DVC (dual voice coil). SVC subs have one + and one - for the wiring connection. DVC has two + and two -.

If the specs says it's a SVC 4ohm 500watts RMS sub, that means you need to find an amp that'll power at least 500 watts at 4ohms to get decent bass from the sub.

If the specs says it's a DVC 4ohm 500 watts RMS sub, it very likely means each coil is 4ohm and since it's DVC (if you remember your physics), that means you'll need to find a 2ohm or 8ohm amp with at least 500 watts to power the sub. If it's a DVC 2ohm sub, then you'll need to find a 1ohm or 4ohm amp to power the sub.

Quite simple.

So basically, Mohawk Orange is DVC 4ohm 200 watts, means it runs at 2ohm or 8 ohms only. Your amp has to be 2ohm 200 watts or 8 ohms 200 watts to get any decent bass from the sub.

DVC is not a really good idea unless you have alot to spare for at least a monoblock or a high end amp. Thats why some taiko say no good because it can get costly, looking at the brighter side, for DVC subs you can either choose for 1 piece if no much to spare to monoblock or high end amp. So there is pros and cons.
:albertein

So that's mean for best sound quality from the DVC woofer, the best is to use a monoblock amp, is it true? I have been using svc all the time and 2 channel amp that can be bridge only.

Well depends on individual also. Like you said getting amp bridged also is a good idea but still using a monoblock will feed the hungry double coils, further more if you are using 12inches or 15 inches DVC woofers. WHeewww getting amp for these will really cost alot

The monoblock amp he most cost few k only waht, haha. Anyway 2 channel amp even put on bridge for woofer with LPF is on still can hear some voice or music, which mean the woofer is not solid enough. But for tight budget this is the best option.

Exactly.... you stole words from my mouth... tight budget= me & myself. Very poor.. HEHEHHEHE only can afford teh tarik :tee:

Friend, don't say like this.... Anyway we buy the ICE is for our preference only, unless we are going for competition, if not a normal 2 channel amp will do, or use a eletronic crossover, or buy a low pass filter coil. I'm using 1 LPF coil now, the effect is not bad.

Uh.. monoblocks are good. But they aren't absolutely necessary. I am using a DVC 4ohm 12" sub with a 400watt RMS (max 1200watts) power rating. I'm feeding it using a Orion HCCA 250 G4 amp, bridged at 2ohms. My bass is ass rumbling already what. :P

Like I said, it doesn't have to be a monoblock and it's not the "best" so to speak. Monoblocks are good because most of them are Class-D amps, which mean they don't require as much power to run compared to normal Class-AB amps, which means they don't get as hot or power hungry.

If you're looking for a cheap but good monoblock, get the Tagwood Class-X monoblock. It's retailing slightly more than 1K brand new and you can get it RM700 or so 2nd hand. The size of the thing is about a Telekom phone and it's called the "chili padi" for a good reason. :D POWERRRRRR

Btw, I mean Telekom phone as in house phone. Not public phone :D

Rattan, aiya.. can save up month by month, then one shot buy good stuff for your ICE mah. Took me 2 years to get everything that I have today. Damn kao poor man me!

Yeah... must save up... Yesterday deepavali day I went audio window shopping... Saw this boschmann woofer 12" double magnet. Damn chun the sound when the shop fello showed me the demo of his car using 10" (1piece). He matched them with MBQ amp, according to him very powerful. I also tought want to upgrade my pasar road woofer set, here is the price he qouted me :

12" boschmann sub (1piece+box) - RM 550
2 Channel MBQ amp - RM 700
Wiring to place amp to the boot - RM 100+
Epsilon electronic crossover - RM 300+
Herts 6 1/2" component set w/o tweeter - RM 230
*All above is siap pasang price

Any sei-fu here can update me if can get any cheaper then above ?

Wiring to place the amp cost you 100++? I think is abit expensive, since you have a woofer already so your woofer amp is behind right? If yes why you need to lay another wire for it? You better ask them first.
