Nolah, some people that want more business will say you have to service every year. Like my wira, without service is colder than after service.

That's right. My Saga Megavalve had an extra COLD airconditioning. Never had any problem, not even a leak.

But once I serviced it, after so many years, leaking, aircon becomes not as cold as before, leaking compressor, etc.

It runs well now, but it's not as cold/efficient as before. The same goes for the Sunny back in my hometown.

Gonna do the same to my other ride. If it ain't broken, don't fix/service it - esp. when it comes to aircon system.

Oh yeah, an old-timer forummer (vestax I think) had initiated a thread last time, complete with photos on a good aircon service/repair workshop somewhere in PJ methinks.

Dig up.

In my earlier post I mentioned the differences between R12 and R22/R132/R134 gasses with the latter gasses being the prefered choice of newer cars. I also mentioned that an old car or a car equipped with an R12 system cannot use the newer gasses and needs to be converted.

Also R132 is known to be not as efficient as the old R12 gas and requires more 'energy' to give the same results. It is however much more friendlier to the environment.

Let me take a guess here and say that some of our local air-cond shops have made the switch to the modern gasses as the older R12 is becoming harder to come by since the ban in the mid-90s. Now when you service your air-cond, chances are you'll lose all the gas in the system and it will need to be refilled. Now if an old car equipped with an R12 system is refilled with R132, there will be leaks and the air-cond will not be as cold as before.

However an old car which has never had its air-cond service will still have some R12 gas in its system when it is refilled. So the mixture of R12 and R132 could be why a car which hasn't been serviced performs better than a car which has been service. Take into account the points mentioned above.

Its not the service that kills the air-cond, its the new less efficient gas. And the new gas works better with modern cars because of better air-conditioning systems than the ones found on old cars. Either way it looks like a lose lose situation for the older models...unless you retrofit a modern air-cond in...

Yeah, maybe is the cause also on the gas used, but mine is new car(2003), also have this problem. Before service is very cold(100%), after service is cold(80%).

My problem air-con is not from traffic jam but it happen when i drive more than 130km/h... fan is ok n compressor is ok plus the cooling coil also ok... What happening to my car???

i do have the same problem last time all the time HOT HOT HOT jam no jam ...then i send for full service and washing the ...just send for evaporator washing...change expension valve and receiver dryer cost me 190 all in plus gas..now very fast cold ...next plan is change bigger condenser and put a radiator fan in front of the condenser ...so even colder...it get jam not is cold too...

air con get not so cold due to no cold air coming to the front...like during jam.....but with radiator in the front condenser is diff story....

Install Nitrous Oxide. Ensure that the NOS will be released into the engine bay when in traffic jam. When the engine bay cools down, the air cond will be cold. hahahaha

Okei, actually, I think many aged cars will experience uncool air conds during jams. One way to get that bit of cool air during jams is to lightly step on the accelerator pedal. Maybe try to keep the rpm at about 1300 for a while and see if the air cond will cool down or not. Else, install air scoops on boney to let hot air go out. hehehe
