demuire san, what is left foot braking actually for? u said that it is especially for ff cars right? from what i have read acroos the net it is used only on high speed corner. is this true? if that's the case then how should i practice this? as it's too dangerous to be applied on the streets.
or should i try slowly first and then gradually increase the speed.
Left foot braking is particularly effective in FWD cars, and is used primarily to counter understeer. That said, I know people who do it in RWD cars too, with varied levels of effectiveness. Personally I generally don't left foot brake in RWD cars, but that's just me. I've done it before, and never found it to be very effective, and generally ended up in more trouble than I started off with (due to slowing front wheels down and spinning rear wheels, making car too sideways!).
In a FWD car, it can help to counter understeer (which is more prevalant in FWD cars anyway). Keeping some throttle while dabbing brakes also helps to keep engine load up, which can help.
Umm, I don't think I'm explaining this particularly well.
Maybe if I explain when I usually use it...
Usually I'll come barreling into a corner, get on brakes, set car up for corner. Come into corner, if going a little too fast and car starts to understeer, then I do a little left foot braking to help get car back on track. Then go back to normal driving. Sometimes if I expect the car to understeer (eg slalom) then I already have my left foot on the brakes, and I left foot brake around the slalom to make it quicker. Keeping right foot on accelerator means no pause between brake and accelerate! :)
As for learning this, I personally wouldn't recommend trying it on the street, although I know you probably will anyway. Start off slow, you'll need to get used to the "sensation" of braking with your left foot. I can almost guarantee you that the first time you do it you'll probably send yourself through the windscreen! Your left foot is usually used to just pushing in the clutch, so trying to control the power with the brakes can be hard. Also, make sure you are always aware of which foot is on which pedal, I know I've made mistakes on that several times, and you go for the brakes but you hit the clutch, and vice versa...
So yes, start off slow, just brush the brakes, see what it feels like, and take it from there.
