The misconception of carbon fibre reinforced materials is that it is strong. Yes, it is strong, but it is also brittle. Carbon is the hardest material available, but it is also brittle, hence it is easy to break if impacted at the wring orientation.

That is why carbon fibre is used with a resin matrix. Just like concrete and steel bars.

Carbon fibre on its own is useless. Just like spaghetti sticks. Brittle.
