Speedy Sunday! – Emperor Touge’s 21/10 Ulu Yam Run

The weather we are having lately might not be the best for any outdoor activity, and it was too bad for the thousands of fans filling up the Sepang International Circuit to have their fast-paced MotoGP being red-flagged due to the torrential downpour.  But earlier on in the morning of 21st October fortunately, the dark clouds still shroud the skies but left the tarmac nice and dry, just as preferred by the Emperor Touge guys to carry on their ascent towards the Ulu Yam touge route.

Arriving at the rendezvous point in the wee hours of the Sunday, and it was surely a view that will instantly wake up any drowsy enthusiasts on a Sunday morning. The crowd might not be as massive as the previous Genting run as, but it was nevertheless a great lineup.

Considered as one of the best hot hatches available today, this white Renault Megane RS was a whiff of fresh air in adding more Continental cars into the lineup. And the same goes to this Mini Cooper S, and a VW Golf GTI, giving company to the usually lone tangy ‘Rocco.

The Mazda family also turned up in great number for this run, with the oldest being this well-kept FB Savanna RX-7. Seeing production from 1978-1985, it is amazing how such a car had been through the decades and still look good today in 2012.

Can we miss out the wild Evos from the run? Not a chance, especially for these two Top Oil touge monsters that seemed to really enjoy running through the hilly roads. Joining the pack is this Evo 6.5, the must-come Evo IX and the latest/last addition into the Evo family, the X.

GT-Rs do not go through hilly roads that well? Who could ever say that? Ride along this brushed-metal finished AWD machine and it will show you how a properly-tuned track-attack car is as agile as the lighter counterparts through the tight and twisty corners.

The ‘Rocco might no longer be alone for this run, but these two Subaru STI and DC5 would just have to keep each other company as they were the only ones representing the famous Japanese marquees.

Since the weather seemed a bit uncertain during the run, the convoy slashed through the hilly roads at moderate speeds, with those that mastered the route leading the way. Fortunately during the whole run through the high speed corners and twisty bends, all cars managed to arrive at the end point in one piece.

And with such a diverse turn up, it could be considered as blasphemy if a photo session was not held, which of course it did. The huge turn up made it a great scene to behold the wide array of wonderful machines coming from all over, with a total of 22 + 1 cars made their way for this Sunday run, where the last one arriving just in the nick of time for the shoot was this gorgeous red Lotus Exige S.

Yet again, the guys from Emperor Touge really know how to pull out a great weekend drive that is incomparable to others. Many thanks go to the friendly members and the president himself for the invitation and a crash course on the growing touge scene in Malaysia!
