The name Subaru might be more well-known in the rallying arena where the brand had secured multiple World Rally Championship wins throughout their racing history. And now, the Japanese manufacturer will get a chance to prove its worth at the British Touring Car Championship as they are linking up with Team BMR to race in the 2016 season.

One of the top teams in the BTCC scene, Team BMR had just secured a three-year deal with Subaru to run two Subaru Levorg Sports Tourers for Jason Plato and Colin Turkington in the upcoming season.

“We’re very excited to have teamed up with BMR for the 2016 championship – the first time a Subaru has competed in BTCC”, said Paul Tunnicliffe, Subaru UK and Ireland boss said. “Although the Levorg features Subaru’s famed all-wheel drive system, the car can be easily developed to compete with rear-wheel drive in order to comply with the BTCC regulations.”

Both Plato and Turkington are no strangers to BTCC as both are two-time BTCC champions. Joining BMR back in 2015, they stunned the crowd by delivering a combined total of 10 wins for its Volkswagen Passat CCs.

“Part of my role when joining BMR was to help secure a manufacturer deal. The iconic Subaru brand has always been right at the top of my wishlist,” said Plato. “Continuing with Team BMR for the 2016 season was an easy decision for me and represents a great opportunity to build on our strong maiden campaign,” added Turkington.
