When the rumours started to state that the next 911 GT3 RS might be turbocharged, the news received a lot of disapproval especially from Porsche fans. This is understandable as traditionally the GT3 RS has always been a naturally aspirated machine, but this might soon change as a report from Car suggest that Porsche might even turbocharge their whole lineup.
To be implemented as soon as 2015, models like the Carrera and Carrera S might soon be turbocharged in the interest of boosting the performance and at the same reducing emissions. The usage of a turbocharger also means that a smaller engine can be fitted in where the Carrera’s 3.4-liter flat-six might drop to a 2.9-liter, while the Carrera S still keeps their 3.8-liter but with a higher output of more than 500-horsepower.
Sounds a bit extreme? This might be the case but one should remember that the new Carrera S rival, the Mercedes-AMG GT S packs 503-horsepower and the current Carrera S has only 400 to gallop with. In the meantime, it is unclear on how much this will affect the 911 Turbo’s power but it is most likely to be boosted up higher than the current 520-horsepower output.
There is however good news in this chapter as the 911 GT3 will still retain its naturally-aspirated status.
