Not a spa for men in general but for the discerning men who love curves and wet… gloss. Yes it’s the AutoDetailer Studio, also known as the Batcave to the regulars. AutoDetailer’s is the premier state-of-the-art facility for pampering cherished cars. If you haven’t already known, then you should read on. You will soon discover that their work is not of your average car wash and that they spend countless hours going through ‘analytic’ levels of attention to detail on each car to achieve the perfect finish. We’re talking about cotton bud cleaning of perforated holes in a bumper mesh and pH balanced water for washing cars!
Spearheaded by a man with chronic OCD issues on car detailing, matched with extreme levels of patience – Darren Chang leads the country’s most advanced detailing facility. Handling the likes of Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini and more, he also enjoys proper hard driving on the weekends. So, we take a look at what is probably; the cleanest, most detailed car in the country.. Darren’s personal Renault Megane RS250.
Many would know that the Megane RS is not your regular French fry – and behind that badge stands an absolutely serious piece of kit. For a person to like the Megane RS, he or she is likely to be a serious driver deep inside. A manual gearbox over the flappy paddle and limited slip differential that locks pleasure in driving are amongst the traits. Match the lust for driving and the love of detailing results in something Darren calls – Project RS!
Illustrated in Custom 3D Matte Blue Aluminium matched with Orange Burst accents; it was meticulously wrapped by AutoDetailer Studio, showcasing the body lines of the Megane and presented with a Hydrophobic Coating that aids in repelling water, bugs and scuff marks from tar and debris that are attained from hard road or track driving.
While presentation is Darren’s priority number one, performance to him is never far behind. The RS250’s 2.0-litre turbocharged heart has been tinkered with to extract its maximum potential. Its ECU has been remapped courtesy of Fastchip’s Stage 1+ tuning coupled with a custom 3″ turbo-back exhaust system to produce not only power, but a throatier howl out of the mill. KTR non-resonated downpipe were also fitted to achieve improved flow; thus more power.
On the chassis department – every beam in the body was injected with AutoFOAM Track Package, a specialist work carried out by KL Auto that not only promises improved chassis rigidity, but also enhances comfort all at the same time. The foaming process was carried out in the stripping stage, where the FOAM was injected in the frames of the chassis; including the engine sub-frame, chassis rails and the A-B-C pillars.
The custom works follows through with the interior which is lavishly covered in Alcantara leather. The roof lining is now layered with suede slcantara where it was canvas before – giving the Megane’s racy interior a touch of luxury. The Recaro buckets were fitted with 4 point harnesses by Schroth Racing. At the same time – the doors were also soundproofed for improved noise control to improve the level of comfort, as and when the little boy-racer inside him is subdued and relaxed. The non-distractive and purposeful interior remains pure and unadulterated of gizmos and tech; nonetheless in keeping the hot hatch within its elements.
As busy as a man like himself can be – it is difficult to fight against the urge to go out for a spirited run up Ulu Yam. From time-to-time, Darren organises breakfast drives on weekends with close friends and fellow enthusiasts; sharing their passion and love for cars and driving. And when b-road runs don’t cut it, Sepang is always their next point of attack.
The natural homeground to many Megane RS. Project RS has been to countless trackdays where it has given Darren the absolute joy of owning one of the best handling front-wheel driven car ever made.
For most, owning a car is about getting from point-A to point-B. But for some – it is more than just a method of transportation. Project RS is a prized possession of Darren’s and it is more than just a car to him. It has not only given him the pleasure of driving but also emit his character for his love of detailing. More importantly however; Project RS has been the cause of making new friends and bringing old friends together – where they get to share their passion and affection for fast cars alongside.
We always enjoy and appreciate the best things in life, but sometimes without realising.. its the things that surround you that makes you who you are. This project will continue to evolve in time – and until he finds another ride worthy to succeed his beloved Megane RS, it will remain irreplaceable.
