Dodge’s tuning arm, SRT (Street and Racing Technology) took a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT8, dropped a new supercharger kit on the 6.2L Hemi V8 to produce 707hp. Coupled with sticky Pirelli P Zeros, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can conquer the quarter mile (402 meters) in 11.2 seconds. Swapping to drag radials will bring that number down to 10.8 seconds.
The brawn of the Hellcat is a redesigned 6.2L Hemi V8, that only shares 9% of the parts with the 6.4L Hemi V8 its based on. Reason for that is that the guys at SRT completely redesigned the internals of the engine to cope with the additional pressure. Almost everything has been enhanced and strengthened, including the forged-alloy pistons, powder-forged connecting rods as well as heat treated cylinder heads. Furthermore, the exhaust valves has a hollow-stem construction and special steel-alloy heads to withstand temperatures of up to 800°c. Power is transferred to the wheels either via a Tremec TR6060 six speed manual or a TorqueFlite eight speed automatic. Both transmissions will then transfer the power to the rear wheels via an upgraded drive shaft, better axles, and a rear differential with extra cooling.
As for the forced-induction end, the new twin-screw supercharger is sealed with premium synthetic oil from the factory, to ensure maximum longevity. The drive ratio of the supercharger is 2.36:1 and maximum revolutions is at 14,600rpm. Boost pressure is maintained at a maximum 11.6psi, and is regulated via an electronic bypass valve.
Moving on, the 20″ wheels are shod with 245/45/20 rubbers from Goodyear (Pirelli P Zero are optional), while brakes are courtesy of Brembo. These huge Brembos are measured at 15.4″ and paired with 6-piston calipers and are the biggest brakes ever featured on a Chrysler passenger vehicle.
