So we have seen the new 2014 Subaru WRX pictures being leaked through the net and although there are mixed reactions on the new styling cues, the excitement for this machine to hit the production lines are still high nonetheless. And while Subaru are trying their best to keep some of the valuable information of the WRX before its launch, the power of the internet once again managed to take the secret to the world.

As many have foreseen, Subaru has ditched the 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four engine that produced 265-horsepower and 244 lb-ft with a smaller, 2.0-liter flat-four from the new Forester. This new engine has been tuned to churn out a slightly higher 268-horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The old five-speed manual will also be swapped with a six-speed, giving the WRX an ability to sprint from zerotohundred in about 5.4 seconds. Subaru will also be offering the CVT in the options, increasing the time to 5.9 seconds. It is said that the manual variants will get a center differential with a fixed 50:50 torque split, while the CVT gets the manufacturer’s All-Wheel Drive system featuring Variable Torque Distribution.

The new WRX will also come with a new electrically assisted power steering, bigger brakes, a stiffer suspension setup, and a 9-percent increase in torsional rigidity over the regular Impreza and 41-percent over the outgoing WRX. For the time being, the WRX is said to be offered only in the sedan guise, and they had eliminated the hatchback variant.
