The Beauty and the Beast – Aston Martin to Partner Up with Mercedes AMG for Engines and Tech!

Aston Martin is widely known for their undeniably handsome cars like the DB9 and the Rapide, but they are not exactly a symbol of speed even with a massive V12 powerplant propelling the car. But that might soon change as Aston Martin had recently announced their new technical partnership with Mercedes-AMG.

Signing a Letter of Intent, Aston Martin will be granted access to “significant Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Mercedes-Benz cars’ resources”. To be more specific, they will get the permission to access the development of the V8 powertrain and the use of certain electronic components.

And in exchange for this exclusive access, Daimler will own a stake of up to five percent non-voting shares in Aston Martin, depending on the progress of the agreement. This means that the German carmaker will join existing shareholders that include Kuwait’s Investment DAR and Adeem Investment, and Italy’s Inventindustrial.

So in the near future, we might be seeing a new generation of Aston Martin models that will incorporate “cutting edge technology and newly-developed bespoke V8 powertrains”. This deal however will not affect Aston Martin’s manufacturing operations, as the whole production line of their sports cars will still be based at the Gaydon HQ in Warwickshire, England.

“Working with Mercedes-AMG in this way while, of course, remaining independent and preserving the unique character and style of Aston Martin that has been the mainstay of the company throughout its 100-year history, points to a very bright future for the company as it starts its second century in business,” said Aston Martin Product Development Director Ian Minards.
