Lotus turns the Elise S into a Hardcore 217HP Track-Toy with the Cup R!

Lotuses are already a fun and nimble track toy, but the Brits figure that they could turn it into something better. Following the Exige V6 Cup R, they had revealed another track-only weapon based on the Elise S with the Cup R.

Powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE engine from Toyota, the power plant has 217-horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Comparing this S Cup R to the road-going version, this track toy is fitted with a bespoke livery and aerodynamic body kit to maximize its performance on the track.

Over to the inside, the Elise S Cup R has a motorsport-specific engine control module (ECM) and a set of adjustable damper and springs. Although the S Cup R now has an extra body kit, roll cage, fire extinguisher and race seats, Lotus had managed to maintain the car’s distinctive featherweight of 924kg.

The car is set to enter the production class of the 2014 Lotus Cup series which include Lotus Cup UK, Europe, Italia, USA, Japan, Thailand, China and Ladies Cup. The Lotus Cup opens its entries to all Lotus owners and their Elise, Exige, Evora, 340R and 2-Eleven.
