When it comes to imagination, the skies the limit really, but the real challenge begins when you start to reign in on that imagination just so it doesn’t run a little too wild; allowing you some mental space for some functionality to go along with that form – something José Eduardo Sánchez seemed to have done very well having been selected as a finalist for the Michelin Challenge Design 2013 competition for his design of a Citroen DS BiRotor Concept.
According to José, his lightweight 4-seater coupe will be featuring a hybrid powertrain; utilizing a 600cc Wankel for rear-wheel propulsion and in-wheel electric motors with a CVT transmission for the fronts.
The chassis of the BiRotor will be a modular combination of carbon and aluminium, coated on the outside, but left raw on the inside with a polycarbonate transparent panoramic roof and an AMOLED screen joining in on the gathering in the cabin.
However, José seems to know what to wrap his BiRotor rims with and he’s chosen something a little more interesting, futuristic and revolutionary adapting to a driver’s need and weather conditions by contracting to harden up the rubber compound for greater fuel efficiency and expanding it for greater water evacuation during a down-pour.
