The NST-Peugeot Design Competition is back, seeking Students from secondary till tertiary education levels (College/University) to participate in the competition that will see it end by May 2013 after having showcased their design talents for the automotive industry, by designing a Peugeot sports car for the future.
Last year was a budding success for the competition, where 105 entries from university and college students and 43 entries from secondary school students had their eyes set keenly on the grand prize of a five-days four-nights all-expenses paid trip to France, which included visits to Peugeot’s research and design headquarters in Velizy, its museum and manufacturing plant in Sochaux and sight-seeing in Paris.
This year, however, university students will be required to participate in teams of two while secondary school students will have to participate individually and everyone will need to submit a brief description of their concepts in not more than 500 words, provide a presentation of at least three panels of the proposed design (front, side and rear) and important features of the vehicle, perspective view of the interior layout, a folio of 2D sketches, package drawing /technical drawing with overall dimensions.
For university participants, the top 10 submissions will be short-listed and will be required to prepare a 1:5 scale model, engineering drawing and a convincing manual or computer-generated presentation panel in AO size and in soft copy. The winner will be selected from within the top 10 finalists.
All entries from the university and secondary school categories will also have incorporate Peugeot’s design DNA in their own designs.
During the design competition, Cars, Bikes and Trucks (CBT) and BH Auto will be organising and running design tutorials on a weekly basis for 2 months to assist the participants in creating their own designs.
These tutorials will also be carried on a dedicated blog for the competition (nst-peugeot-design.blogspot.com.) The blog will also carry information on the rules and regulations of the contest, profiles on the judges and the prizes.
Entry forms for the competition will be available on in the print edition of the New Straits Times on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Winners for the university/college student category will be awarded a five-day four-night expense paid trip for both members of the team to Paris and Peugeot’s research and design centre in Velizy, France along with RM1,500 in cash and Peugeot merchandise valued at €100 for each member of the team.
The second-place winning-entrant will receive a five-day four-night trip with all expenses paid for both members of the team to Paris and the design centre in Velizy, France along with RM1,000 and Peugeot merchandise valued at €100 for each team member.
For third place, the winners will receive RM1,000 each. The other seven finalists in the university category will receive exclusive Peugeot merchandise.
For secondary school students, the first place winner will receive RM1,500 and Peugeot merchandise. The second place winner will receive RM1,000 and Peugeot merchandise while the third-place winner will receive RM750 and Peugeot merchandise.
For both the secondary school and college categories, each entrant will receive a certificate of participation. All winners will be announced in May 2012 on a date to be decided and the winners list will be published on www.peugeot.com.my, www.nst.com.my, www.cbt.com.my and nst-peugeot-design.blogspot.com.
