Porsche has let loose 4 new versions of their ever popular 911 that will come in either the Carrera 4 or Carrera 4S and both of them will be made available as a coupe or cabriolet. The uniqueness about it is that it’s got an All-Wheel-Drive drive-train.
Sporting the same traits as their rear-wheel drive stable mates with a lightweight body design, suspension, engines and gearboxes being pretty much identical – as much as 16% less in terms of fuel consumption can be experienced.
But that’s not all, the new 911 Carrera 4 is now up to 65kg lighter even though the rear wheel housings extend further outward by 22mm, and the rear tyres are 10mm wider and power gets transmitted to them via a 7-speed manual transmission with the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox being made as an optional extra.
Power for the 911 Carrera 4 Coupé comes in at 350bhp with performance figures that catapults you to 100km in as little as 4.5s with a top speed of 285kmh, while sipping on 8.6L/100km thanks to its PDK. The Cabriolet isn’t far behind, being 0.2s slower at 4.7s and a top speed of 282kmh and fuel consumption figures almost identical at only 8.7L/100km.
The range topping 911 Carrera 4S utilises a 3.8L rear-mounted boxer engine that got 50bhp more at 400bhp and out sprints the Carrera 4 to 100kmh in just 4.1s with a top speed of 299kmh. But of course, with greater power, comes higher fuel consumption figures rated at 9.1L/100km if its got the PDK. The 4s Cabriolet, on the other hand get to 100kmh in 4.3s and onwards to a top speed o 296kmh with its best fuel consumption figures rated at 9.2L/100km also with the PDK.
Public appearance for the new All-Wheel-Drive Porsche 911 Carrera has been set for the upcoming 2012 Paris International Motor Show!
