Highlights From The 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix

The 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix was most certainly one of the most drama filled race of the season. During qualifying, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa got struck in the head by a suspension component that broke off Rubens Barrichello’s BGP001 racer, the impact knocked him out and he subsequently landed in hospital with potentially life threatening injuries. Massa’s recovering now thanks to speedy medical care and attention.

The highlight of the race was Mclaren’s return to the top step of the podium with Hamilton and Renault’s rookie mistake that got them banned from the next Grand Prix in Valencia. Lewis Hamilton and his team-mate were fastest during practise but the two only managed a fourth and sixth place in qualifying. KERS helped Lewis shoot up front during the start and later wrestled second place from Red Bull’s Mark Webber, he then capitalized on Renault’s failure to secure Fernando Alonso’s front left tyre resulting in the Spanish double World Champion retiring very early on in the race. That’s not all though, the mid-field battle saw the Brawn’s fail to shine and Championship contender Sebastian Vettel retire. Watch the video above for all the highlights from the race.
