This past weekends round 5 of the Sepang Drag Battle was also the final round of the year. So a lot was expected of it plus round 4 had proven to be a thriller, there was no reason round 5 shouldn’t be. So I thought, but that’s not how it turned out. The recent daily onslaught of freak weather and heavy rain didn’t let up and Sepang International Circuit was not spared. The wet situations didn’t help the dragsters so the start time had to be delayed, and that didn’t help with the mood which sadly was quiet.
Those running on slicks were prevented from starting till the track dried out and that led to some very boring “quiet time”. And by the time they were actually allowed to go out, we had officially been there for a good five hours, drenched and not very amused. It wasn’t anybody’s fault as safety was of utmost priority, but it certainly wasn’t a very pleasant situation. In fact by the time everything got into full swing with the dragsters doing what they do best and the crowd as loud as they always are, it was past 12am. Hungry and weary, we left at about 130am but the dragsters were still raging and the crowd was still ecstatic.
