The Nissan GT-R seemingly stop hogging the limelight, from the day it was first whispered about in 1999 till today, it has not failed to make headlines, and each time it appears, it seems to outdo itself and the competition, too perfect of a car? For the time being, yes it is.
Well, it has now outdone itself again by setting a new lap time of 7:29 and this time it did it in dry conditions. When it first set the record last year, beating supercars like the Porsche GT3, Lamborghini Murcielago, and Mercedes SLR, Nissan engineers were still disappointed as there were two damp corners on the track, and everyone was quite sure that the car, piloted by official test driver Tochio Suzuki, could go faster than the 7:38 posted.
Now it is back with a vengeance and sniffing for dry corners to reel in those precious seconds and it has emerged victorious again. Blessed with a completely dry track, the base model GTR wearing stock Japanese market tires shaved off 9 seconds off its previous best time, posting a lap time of 7:29. And by doing that, it now adds the Porsche GT2, Koenigsegg and SLR 722 GT as victims of its tremendous ability.
Apparently still not satisfied, the GTR has its sight firmly on the Carrera GT and Pagani Zonda F Clubsport both about one second faster, and it has a trick up its sleeves. The GTR V-Spec is scheduled to make an appearance in less than a year and it has already been casually timed at 7:25, lay your bets everyone, there is a clear favourite.
