The amazingly fast SL65 AMG is now even faster, well that’s what the Black Series is all about so there’s no suprise there. With total output limited to 661hp, the 6 liter biturbo V12 engine is actually capable of a stonking 720bhp. Such massive mechanical talent coupled with the extensive use of carbon fiber parts that results in a total weight reduction of 250kg hauls the SL65 from a standstill to 96km/h in 3.9seconds. Slow you may say, but considering that the car weighs nearly two tons (1,870kg), it’s more than just impressive.
With a top speed of 320km/h, it is widely believed that if the SL65 Black Series were any lighter, it could easily rival the performance of rivals like Koenigsegg and the legendary Bugatti Veyron.
To achieve that it would mean that the SL would have to shed more weight and that could lead to it loosing its Mercedes personality; comfort and convenience. Not a very good idea considering Mercedes has established itself as a comfortable and convenient people mover, not forgetting luxurious.
To be launched at the Paris Motor Show in October, Mercedes will reveal its pricing and more information then. For now, we can only imagine what else it’s capable of.
