Using Elf Excellium FT 5w/50, fully syn , seems to be quite stable and no significant burn off during use. Very smooth engine

Never really analyze the drained lube, so I dunno. But I think our applications are family type usage, I guess it doesn't matter. It's not like we bring it to the track. Difference will be minimum.

My oil dealer friend told me that for most full syn oil, oil change interval at 8k no problem, I believe it's an honest opinion as he would want to sell more oil by reducing the mileage interval. He drives a WRX and does it at 8 to 10 k interval.
In the 80's the recommended oil interval for Mobil 1 was 25 or 40,000km if I remember correctly.
Granted its now forced induction but I believe the oil manufacturers also do not want their oil to fail and they recommend 10k interval too.

Oil based is the most important issue. 4G63 need thick oil especially in our hot climate. Anything lower than 50 i will recommended to change max every 3k. It will not kill the bearing in short term. Oil i will recommended Torco, Millers Oil or Q8. 15w50 semi will be alright for 5k interval change. If you have budget, get Millers Oil Nanodrive Triple-ester Fully Synthetic 10w60, i have tried it for 10k, the oil pressure is still so stable, but i sked, so change it. :-P

Tried Mobil 1, Shell Semi, Full Syn and many oils. It just cant last with the temperature in our turbo-charged engine. Can feel the car power drop after 3-4k mileage. Dont know why, maybe my ass abit sensitive, just me 2cent.

For longer OCI the problem is not the oil but the additives. They do break down too. Another will be, the longer you keep the oil the longer you keep the dirt in. I used to keep 10k km OCI but I find the engine internals become darker and looks dirty. That is why nowadays I go for cheaper FS and do 5k km oil change

Tesco brand FS not cheap also. Promo at RM99.90 and if not RM139.90. For that brand at this price I would not buy....
I got some FS at warehouse sale, Delphi, Zeetex then got dealer's offer of BHP also. Buy and keep now got like 2 to 3 years stock....

In the hot weather 40+degrees we run Castrol TWS 10w60, it's high in phosphates, zinc and titanium so has a lot of protection for the turbo bush bearing as well as the motor, normal temperatures use 0w40 Castrol edge
