Single Straight or Y Pipes

I never got a straight answer regarding this issue.

Straight pipe:
Lighter (less piping)

Y-pipe:
"prettier"

Is there any difference between a 2.5 inch single pipe and a 2.5 inch Y-pipe in terms of exhaust flow?

Because the Y-pipe is two pipes at 2.5 inch each after the cat, does that mean that effective diameter is 5 inch?

Some answers I've gotten:
No:
- Y-pipes are only as good as the diameter from the downpipe.
- Y-pipes are constrictive at the Y split which can add backpressure.
Yes:
- Y-pipes effectively function at double its diameter.
- Y-pipes can create positive pressure waves outwards of the system.

I havent met a single exhaust systems "specialist" who actually agree on either. And I've never seen dyno charts of any Y-pipes either - single pipes are cheaper and easier to build after all.

theorotically... Y pipes doesn't cause back pressure at the split.
but the flow design is really a crucial point.
some Y pipes looks like T :)
then that's causing turbulance at the joint...

another thing to look at is your downpipe to midpipe to cat back... is it all 2.5 inch ? anything smaller.... it doesn't make sense...

the question goes back to yourself....do you want twin exhaust or single exhaust which is LOUD... Twins sounds softer than the single straight pipes...

My previous Civic was 1 of the feature cars in TRAFFIC & HYPERTUNE Mag a couple of months back....... Now i will add RE Club Mal to the list of TT sessions to remember to go to...... Oh yeah, met up with Lennon a couple of times edi..... I service my 8 at Wangan and sometimes LINKS @ Sunway............

Thats what problems we found on 'one-make car club'...... So diversified car clubs would be fun, you learn about other cars, sometimes if keep on talking about rotary would turn you off too..... Even when Vincent's wife is pregnant, we still come for meeting without sms......

Back when i had the FD, i had all my friends gather at my house.... Imagine 5-6 FD all parked side-by-side.... Even had a couple of FC........ Not to mention RE 13B Capella Bridge Ported........ That car was finally sold to RMD Workshop JB (Taib & Rafi)...............

Yesss....... i was talking pre 99 coz i had the FD from 96-00.......... They bought over the Capella from "Latif" in the late 90's.......
