Crazy is relative but we think it’s safe to say that stuntman and semi truck racer Mike Ryan, is more than one kind of crazy. So much so, the man could be considered criminally insane in more than a few states.
He drives a 2008 Freightliner Cascadia that generates 1,950hp and 4,600Nm of torque. Did we mention that the truck itself is painted in the hallowed Gulf livery? All that brute force does make the 4.5 ton behemoth pretty agile, something of which Ryan is keen to demonstrate every opportunity he gets.
He has put the truck through some extremely challenging hill climb events, some of which are considered tough even in cars. He even did his own Ken Block Gymkhana impersonation, proving the truck can lay down some darn impressive burnouts.
This time around, Ryan took the truck up Mount Washington for the Mt. Washington Climb to the Clouds. Not wanting to let anybody miss out the thrills and adrenaline, Ryan strapped a few cameras to the semi to give us a front row view.
Just to make it interesting, because Ryan is 384 different kinds of crazy, he did it in the pouring rain. We’re still attempting to fathom how he rocked a semi truck up the gravel roads in the wet, kicking out the rear on some of the sweeping corners.
