I am assuming you live in a standard link/terrace house. The portion I believe TS was referring to is the side table where older developments has grass which is shared between the 2 houses. Most new contemporary development these days uses road kerbs.
That side table is shared. By common sense, it is a first come first serve space. Legally, it belongs to the local council. If you are bold enough, do not move your car if he ask you to. Likewise, if he is there first, you have no right to say it is yours either. Otherwise, the strong will always trump the weak.
