i want to share a problem i encojnter recently to add to our knowledge and who knows it might helps u guys one day.
I was driving one night when suddenly;
-gearbox jerk
-it seems to lock on 2nd gear
-gb check light on
-gear felt like slipping clutch in manual tranny(safe mode i guess)
what i tot;
-tcu needs to be retune(normal on euro electronic)
-one off error
i park at the roadside and restart.it worked before but not this time.now i am accepting the fact that something major is wrong in the gb.most probably a solenoid valve.i still make it home driving like a snail.that night i remove the tcu fuse to reset it after looking on my porch and see no atf leaks and drip on it.
next day a reinstall the fuse and the problem is still there.have a proper look under the hood and only then i discover the atf is leaking and its all over the left lower arm.fyi my gb does not have dipstick.i decided to call the tow truck and not drive it to workshop to prevent damage.well,not u less i have fried the auto box last night...
My regular mech drop the gb on the floor but decided to call gb specialist as the job require special tool.when completed they replaced 3 seal which are;
1.main seal(output shaft of the gb)
this is just a precautionary replacement.i agreed as removing the gb might caused some extra wear.
2.pump seal.its what they called it.
3.one more seal i cant remember.
what they said is that the gearbox itself is not leaking.with the seal kn the pump leaking,everytime i select a gear atf will be spilled and the system looses pressure.the tcu detect this and trigger safe mode which is why i cant go fast.
considering the mileage of my car (186k km) and the fact that keepi g om driving with the supposedly low atf level due to leak might caused the gb to spoilt..i was preparing to order a manual box from uk.
to my surprise...the gb survive and it feels just like before.
it still need a complete retune though as engine is not responsive enough.guess the safe mode really save the gb.
