Hi guys, i would appreciate some advice on getting a used 1998 audi a4 1.8. The car seems to be in pretty good condition and everything seems to be working just fine. What id like to know is quite general i suppose...

    1. How hard is it to get parts?

    2. How much more does general parts cost compared to say a mitsubishi of that age.
example: Mitsu alternator 300 bucks. Audi - ?

    3. Is it reliable if proper maintenance is done regularly. (sorry i know this is a very subjective question but i'd like to hear experiences of cars just dying out of a sudden, if any :P)

    4. Should i get the a4?
    if yes, why?
    if no, why? LOL

    5. WHHY derfuq is it cheaper than a persona???!

Please let me know any negative experiences with the car soon, as i am damn tempted to just buy the sheet out of it. :D

I can't remember which A4, but there was one batch that had interchangeable parts with other car makes specially the skoda. Parts wise it's easily accessible at the right places but you'll be paying premium because it's a conti. But once fully operational, it'll last quite a while before you'll have to splurge again. My friend spent about 2k replacing a leaking radiator and he changed back to stock, not aftermarket.

Having said that nothing beats driving a properly done conti. Screw the Persona.

Thanks for the info bro. yeah i think i might just buy it since a recond gearbox on mudah is around 2.8k which is not too bad... The gearbox is one of my main concerns.

2k for a rad? O.O why not get a whole new engine for 1.5k?

Bro, is this a B5 NA CKD?

You might wanna check with local Audi forums as I believe there are known issues with gearbox that the CBU Turbo doesn't have.

    B5 - Ronin car.

Oh not just for the rad, whatever bushes or stuff needed and workmanship. I think he went back to Audi to have it done. So ... yeah.

There is an Audi specialist on Old Klang Road. But for me I will stick to Japs Cars. Even at Audi specialist many abandon Audis there....:hmmmm:
