Guys....

I suddenly have this crazy idea...... do you guys think it's possible to swap the 1TR-FE Auto in the Innova to a 3S-GE BEAMS 4th Gen. Auto from an Altezza RS200?

1JZ definately out of the question coz i doubt the MPV can take the sudden power of a forced induction engine, as compared to the smoother power delivery of NA....

Endorsement should be OK coz both also automatic and Toyota Engine 1,998 cc..... but technically is it doable? Both are RWD also...

The 5 speed automatic transmission from the Altezza RS200 makes 200 PS (147 kW) at 7,000 rpm and 22.0 kg·m (216 N·m) at 4,800 rpm.... should be just nice to carry the heavy body of the 2 tonne Innova, as compared to the 1TR-FE's 136 hp (101 kW) @ 5600 rpm and 18.6 kg m (182 N·m) of torque @ 4000 rpm....

It should have better drivability and can give the 2.4L Estima a run for their money..... It probably will give better fuel consumption since the automatic GB from the 3S-GE is 5 speed as compared to the 4 speeder of 1TR-FE? My current FC is 6.5km/L for city drive..... pure highway 110km/h only gets 10.5km/L.... sigh....

Actually the main objective of the swap is for better drivability, more relaxing pickup and better FC.... It's a MPV... it's not meant for crazy power or drag....

don't expect a lot better drivability when using high-rev n/a engine on heavy mpv. supercharger or turbo engine even if it produce a bit lower bhp than that n/a engine (of course with a lot of torque at low-rpm range) will work better.

Rs200 owner here, i hv to agree with c99d,
obvious power only kick in at higher rev ( typical yamaha breed engine characteristic),
however the Tiptronic on the 5AT shud give enough fun & spirited drives

had drive a altezza recently, the torque only kick in after 4k and rev happy till 7.5K, tested it's red-line capability was around 8.5k with Toms' ECU. not really recommended for used on a heavy MPV chassis ^^~

just my two cents~

Hi C99D-MMC5537 & wfhan & dennisdreams.... comments appreciated!

Hi dennisdreams, okay... the torque kicks in at 4K and rev happy till 7.5K..... hahaa... at least better than the 1TR...... can't really feel any torque even until the red lines.... LOL.... what to do..... Innova is the poor man's Estima mah.....

So.... any suitable swap other than the BEAMS for the heavy chasis? doubt anyone would be crazy (or cash rich) enough to plonk in a 2.5L 4GR-FSE V6 with a 6-speed sequential automatic transmission.... but it would be great to see one! Imagine the yummy 215 PS (158 kW; 212 hp) at 6,400 RPM and 26.5 kg·m (260 N·m; 192 ft·lbf) at 3,800 RPM..... somemore still within the JPJ's 30% increment limit....

or back to the oldskool 1JZ?

Don't put that in your innova man. You'll have to rev the shit out of it. Compatibility wise, I don't know. but I believe 3S-GTE, 1JZ-GE, 1JZ-GTE or 1G-GTE will be better.

Or better, just do a low-pressure BOT on your stock.

I agree with C99D-MMC5537 & wfhan that 3S-GE BEAMS in Innova = Bad Idea,

FYI, I'm also a 3S-GE BEAMS owner.

If you can find an engine from Hilux, u are set. If u want earth mover diesels is the only way to go.
Yeah never crossed my mind bout the Hilux's heart. It shud provide sufficient power i guess for the Innova.

according to what i understand, the innova was build base on hilux chassis, so it should be able to transfuse a 2kz- aka hilux 2.5SR turbo engine without any difficulty, as you only need to look for a 2WD hilux 2KZ engine and gearbox~ and you were set ^^

oh, forgot to mention, it's a diesel engine~

no matter wat turbo just makes more torque at lower rpm...so its more suitable for innova

Well Innova, Hilux Vigo & Fortuner share same platform. Its a toyota asia platform kind of thing. So u have a choice of 2.7L petrol or 2.5L diesel. I would go for diesel if i want to move stuff. Even people. If u know someone who has a Hilux Vigo, go test test first. Because after u spend so much money its still not to your liking then it would be difficult. Btw Hilux axle is leaf spring while Innova is coil spring. So the some shoehorning might be needed here. Last time there was an Unser that was transplanted with a hilux engine inside near my house. The guy sold the car already. Didn't get a chance to ride it. But the owner abuse it like hell. It sounded ok, but the rest dunno la. :driver:
