Bugatti Screams to the Record Books with the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse WRC

So the Veyron Super Sport might have its “World Fastest Production Car” title stripped off after the guys from Guinness World Records found out that the unit making the record-breaking run had its speed restrictor deactivated. But does that mean Bugatti will stop trying to break any more records in the near future? Not at all.

Not long after this controversial decision was made, Bugatti aimed in making the world’s fastest production roadster, which they did with the new Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse WRC. While we are pretty sure some of you might confuse WRC as “World Rally Championship”, it actually stands for “World Record Car”.

And how fast did this “World Record Car” did with its top down? Powered by a massive 7.9-liter W16 engine strapped with four turbochargers, the 1,200-horsepower engineering marvel did a 408.84 km/h at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien proving grounds with the top down; and they got a video as a prove to go with it.

The video features Chinese racing driver Anthony Liu reaching the record-breaking speed in front of the Bugatti’s staff and also Germany’s independent Technical Inspection and Certification (TUV) committee, arriving at the scene to verify the world record.

Since this WRC is fairly special, only eight of such will be made. And sticking with Bugatti’s tradition, with huge horsepower comes a huge price tag; USD 2.6 million (RM 7.8 million), and that has yet to include the taxes.
