Autocar presenter Steve Sutcliffe has got to be one of the luckiest auto journalist around today. To add on to his already impressive list of “I’ve driven that”, he gets behind the wheel of a Mclaren F1. But not any Mclaren F1 mind you, it is the Mclaren F1 GTR race car that won Le Mans and has been converted back for road use. Chassis number 10 currently belongs to Pink Floyd drummer and auto maniac Nick Mason.
So what’s the difference between a regular Mclaren F1 and a Mclaren F1 GTR? Weight. The GTR weighs in at only 950kg but retains the massive power of the BMW sourced engine. But thanks to the shorter race gearing, top speed has been lowered to 290km/h from the “regular” 386km/h. But who cares? Steve’s expression suggests that he definately doesn’t care. Enjoy the video, and the sound of the racer.
