Hi.. Happy Chinese New Year..

Anyone here heard of Mini-Me conversion? I was wondering if anyone done it locally?

From what i understand (I dont understand much), Mini-Me is the conversion of a non-vtec engine to a Vtec engine.. for Sohc's only.. they switch cams, heads, ecu, etc to add Vtec to the D16Y non-vtec..
Any comments?

yes sohc only.me also interested with this kind of mini-me project
and has gone through all the web ( mostly from US )
its about head swapping only(including all part that attached together with head eg:intake,exhaust mani,cam,distributer, timing belt ,ecu,plug cable etc)but they do d15y engine.

d16y8,d16yz head into d16y5,y7 engine but please consider auto or manual.If your tranny is manual then use only head/ecu from manual.also think about vtec selonoid wiring ,sensor and other minor thing.The problem is not all mechanic can do this.

At last the price u have to pay for all these include labourcost.it is worth ?i am very sure hp gain will not exceed standard d16y8,d16z6 itself.maybe arround 10hp on wheel for 2k++ spend.

From what i noticed.. Most does Mini-Me on a D15Y compared to a D16.. More resources to refer too.. :)

Yeah.. problem is that almost all garages will propably recommend you just go for a B16A using the cost:performance ratio.. major let downs.. :(

I am expecting to get it done in the 3k price range.. All seems easy i believe.. head, cams and other internals seems bolt-on.. so won't need to find any specified "specialist" shop to get it done.. only thing i am worried about is the ECU..

Another thing i read about is how it is "better" for you to change the gearbox switching to the Vtec gearbox.. oh.. and I am planning to stick to auto tranny by the way.. haih.. mind wandering day and night..

sometimes it is very confusing if you're dicussing stuffs in american honda forum, because they do it in a complicated way... simply because they have limited honda parts to find, plus very expensive. not to mention, some specs are a bit different. we don't have so many variance of engine either for D series or B series. americans don't have carbs on D-series ... they had dual point injections, and multipoint injections on newer engine.

yeah.. americans has a huge variety.. just want to go through everything I can find info on and determine which engine Mini-me conversion is actually refering to malaysian's local models..

as I said.. what worries me most is ECU.. :unsure:

moment CNY is over can go around asking for opinions for Mini-Me conversions.. :P

hahaha.. well I'll be honest to say that it is not confirmed yet.. others in my mind includes turbo kit or accord sohc transplant.. basically anything which suites my EXTREMELY small budget.. :P

however, currently Mini-me seems to the be top choice for lowest budget and best power output.. from a 100bhp to a 130bhp engine.. with lots more potential from external mods.. :)
 
what's your original engine anyway? D16-series? what model?

i think u can get a complete D15B sohc vtec engine with harness and ecu easily from kedai potong. u can leave out the block and use everything else and bolt on your D16. You can retain your automatic gearbox too. Just make sure u got the engine with the same OBD (5th gen OBD-I, 6th gen OBD-II)

But I think it's a bit hard to get the head assembly only... coz most kedai potong only sell the whole thing.

I don't think accord sohc transplant is a good idea for a low budget transplant. Do remember u will not only need the engine, engine harness and ecu... but tranny, driveshafts, custom wiring etc...

Yeap.. that was what I have been told at a workshop.. He was mentioning that the total up cost of getting all the above mentioned will be equivalent to getting a halfcut dohc anyway.. :ph34r:

:blink: I dont think I have been reading enough.. I didn't know a D15b can be used for a D16Y mini-me conversion.. all the while i was thinking that a 1.6 model Vtec was required..

mine should be a D16Y7.. :)
 
for your D16Y7, u'll only need sohc vtec head, ecu harness and the ecu.

as for the ecu ... any 1.6sohc vtec ecu can be used, d15b ecu also possible, but the setting maybe not so ngam.
 
hmm... find it difficult to look for mech's who are fluent with Mini-Me's.. most dont even know what im talking about.. :P or maybe my kantonis sucks.. haha :P
 
ppl don't use mini-me term here... that's why lar :D

just say that u want to change to sohc vtec head... easy mar

btw... your engine is OBD-I or OBD-II?

I did explain i want to change the head to make the engine Vtec.. They will either say "We don't do it" or "Just get a B16 lar".. Maybe I am looking at all the wrong places.. just for your information i was asking around Sunway..

u got my word already,lot of workshop don't do this kind of job .me also facing the same problems unless DIY ??DARE TO TRY??? hahaha :D :lol: :P
