Ok sifu's i need an understanding on the above title...
Whats the difference between the three above...
- When i meant EMS is like APEX FC, AEMS, MICROTECH, HALTECH, etc.
- When i meant Piggyback is like Uninchip, Emanage, Obit
- When i meant ECU is like MUGEN, Spoon ECUs (NOT CHIPS)...
I am contemplating which i should choose from to complement my rather mild type r set up.
Thanks...
ermm im not entirely sure what you mean by your question but i'll try my best to answer ok?
1) PowerFC, Haltech, Microtech, Motec etc are all standalone ECU's that replace the stock ECU. Generally, these ECUs offer alot more features from basic functions such as boost control, bigger injectors, to rotational idle, antilag, batch fire, nitrous set ups, datalogging, etc.. Certain ECUs would have more tuning points that most and usually you get what you pay for.. however, the important thing to keep in mind is that an ECU is only as good as the tuner.. a competent and experienced tuner is needed to get the most out of an ECU..
2) Unichip, Emanage, SAFC, etc are just piggybacks whereby the original ECU is still retained and signals to the ECU are intercepted by these units and the user is then allowed to manipulate them to gain a desired effect such as leaner or richer mix.. an example is the SAFC.. these units have far less control than a full ECU and would not have as many features however for basic setups, theyre not bad.. bear in mind that you dont need a full ECU if you have just basic mods.. its good if you can afford it, but not essential.. piggyback is good enough for some
3) Mugen ECU, Spoon ECU, would most probably be a stock ECU but with a daughterboard of some sort which allows the stock ECU to be tuned.. from my understanding, it is basically an add on chip that allows the tuner to modify the fuel maps etc inside an ECU for better performance.. when dealing with these sorts of pre-programmed ECUs, u have to bear in mind that they are tuned in Japan with the Jap fuel in mind as well as weather etc so it might not be totally suitable for Msian fuel / weather..
PS - i dont know everything, and i may be wrong in some aspects.. what i mentioned above is very general and does not refer to any ECU.. there are some very good piggyback ECUs such as Fcons which are worlds better than some of the crappier standalone ECUs which i wont mention here.. basically ECUs is a HUGE subject and you can spend months just reading up on them and comparing the different features etc..
PPS - what i suggest is that you read this section of the forums thoroughly, do research then ask more specific questions so that people can help you better..
