I think everyone that drives a car hope that they will not see a toasted gearbox....Truth is that i think i heard the equal amount of horror stories from any brand of cars....

So, i think it's about how you take care of your gearbox, your driving style and a bit of luck.

So far, i've not come across any database that shows number of toasted gearbox vs. make of cars so far.

(I'm interested to build one in ZTH though!! hhhhh)

Talk about gearboxes. Just heard that a friend's Perdana box just blew. Apparently there is a small plastic cap or something like that in the box. Damn thing got loose and fell into the gears and then it started smokin. He was on the highway some more. So one Perdana gearbox hancur.

Perdana gearbox is the same gearbox that is used in the Mitsu GTO...has cover on the back for LSD that they seal up for use in FWD applications. NO gearbox designed with 4WD in mind ever withstands FWD applications.

Also, the gearbox is the weakest part of any Mitsu...and the Perdana is, after all, a Mitsu....

A32 Starter

Hi All Any news from TT yesterday?

Just to share.....Anyone having starter issue before?

My cefiro all the while no starting issue either in the morning or anytime. Only one crank the engine will start. However, sometimes (only sometimes) can hear the sweaking sound (krek...krek..) at the time of starting engine. I thought that was the belts issue.

Yesterday, after lunch, my Cefiro can't start, no sound (klik...). Thought is battery but not. Call mechanic. He just use a metal bar hitting the starter few times while I try to start the engine. Wolla, the engine start!!!

So just replace the starter from chopshop, cost me RM300 + RM30 for labour. A bit pricey for starter I think.....

Later called 2 chop shops, one (the chop shop where I bought my 2.5l engine) quote RM200 for recond unit, used one less than RM200, another quote RM300.

Just replace the carbon rods. Should be available...

Did you retrieve your old starter? If you did, pass to me and I see if can recond or not. If original carbon rods not available, it's not difficult to modify another set to fit.

The starter is a standard, high torque DC electric motor. There are carbon rods of all shapes and sizes that you can buy for all the thousands of types of electric motors out there. So, should be able to find something that will fit.

ahhh....i think its the same mechanism with the fan...carbon builds up resulting in failure to start or move...thats why with a few knock, it can starts again...

dream...i think the white cefiro r using original JDM skirt but he modified the middle to become 1 piece instead of 2...
