can give us more details on your system? and what other stuff did u do your pc... overclocking... tampering with BIOS... etc etc... pls list down coz it's hard to diagnose what problems you're facing...

also... how did u install win xp... how did u partition.. drives formatted with NTFS or FAT ? ... did u install win xp on a clean and new hdd? or was it already partitioned when u installed?

simple things like your cables inside the pc blocking air ventilation could heat up the cpu and freezes your pc...
