Rumours have running around about Tony Fernandes wanting to let go of the Caterham F1 team, but back then there was nothing concrete to actually prove that this was going to take place. But as time passes by, what was earlier regarded as ‘rumours’ now turned up to be true as Tony Fernandes had actually sold the Caterham F1 Team to a consortium.
The Caterham F1 Team has announced in a statement that “Tony Fernandes and his partners have sold the team to a consortium of Swiss and Middle Eastern investors”. While there are still no word on who are these investors, the move was made as advised by former F1 Team Principal Colin Kolles.
The new ownership of the team goes into effect immediately with former Dutch F1 driver Christijan Albers taking over the day-to-day running of the team, and assisted by Manfredi Ravetto. He will be replacing the outgoing team principal, Cyril Abiteboul.
“We are aware of the huge challenge ahead of us given the fight at the bottom end of the Championship and our target now is to aim for tenth place in the 2014 Championship. We are very committed to the future of the team and we will ensure that the team has the necessary resources to develop and grow and achieve everything it is capable of,” said Albers.
