Hi ZTH,

I am new to car modification.

I have a stock Toyota never been modified before in anyway.
Am thinking about saving fuel using SC.

Please could you confirm for me if the following understanding is correct or not:

1. when induced air (compressed) goes into a car , the O2 density will increase for the same volume of air taken into the cylinder and O2 sensor measures this and pass this info to the computer which then adjusts more fuel to be injected into the chamber to get the right mix to enable combustion. So, this means compressed air will actually require more fuel, am i right ? Assumption is same level of acceleration applied on the accelerator.

Hope you don't mind my novice question but I am very interested to get confirmation on the above.

Have a nice day.

regards
Richard

SC into a Toyota or whatever car is the same. SC component is added to the engine witha motive, which is to increase accelaration of the car. More accelaration= More combustion power= More air and fuel burned. From the equation i dont think so you can save fuel if you install SC. A good example is a man that jogs 5km per day will lose more fat compared to a man that is just siting or walking everyday...No way if you are running hard for 10km and you are getting fatter and saving more fat right?

Your original ECU is designed for non forced inducted engine, which is NA. Plonk a SC will make your ECU go crazy. You need additional work to be done the ECU, which is to remap the fuel mapping so that it can cope again with the so much increased air. Example again, a fat man that always eat and sleep all his life and suddenly you force him to run 10km per day, sure he go crazy right? So you must "psycho" the brain and change the way he thinks

Dear evo5755,

Thanks for clearing my doubt. You analogy is excellent! :)

I guess SC or turbo is not what i am looking for.
vvti is good enough for me.

cheers. :wavey:

hahha no problem. Anytime. Just stick to VVTi and leave it as it is. If you want power, you just need to get another car which the engine was originally turbocharged from factory. Then you can upgrade and make it a monster from there.

Which toyota are you driving? i am also driving altis VVTi. ACtually it is quite good for this normal standard engine. you can try drop in filter. I have added drop in filter, better aceleration when overtaking cars and fuel consumption more or less the same. Cheerz...

Hmmm but i'm actually saving fuel by going turbo.hehe.The best decision i made.Power when i want and saves fuel.:driver:

Hi Evo5755,
:itsme:Oh, mine is just a Vios engine 1.5 l.

I have no idea what is a "drop-in filter" but have heard of it before.
Does it mean replacing the stock airbox with such a filter that allows more air, to get in ? Must replace the stock airbox? (hope the term I used is correct :hmmmm:) It also has a washable type right?

I am very glad to have found this forum.
Very good place to learn a lot of stuff from many experts. Even though I am not into SC or turbo, its still interesting to know more.

cheers.

Drop in filter u can make some googling bro. No rocket science, it is just performance filter which does not need you to change your airbox. The filter shape is exactly same like your OEM size. Just buy it, take out the original filter and fit in performance drop in filter. There you go..hahaha..there are many brands out there, like HKS K&N and i used HKS drop in. Pretty good i would say.
