B-series gearbox question

beside the 4.7 fd from the itr, what other fd ratio could i get? beside the R, the rest going to cost way more? the cap sudu stuff never come cheap :(

off topic: beside valve spring & retainers, what else is important to prevent crash boom bang during high rev?
 
4.9 and 5.0

to prevent damage during hi rev
- good vs
- good retainer
- good timing belt
- good rev cut point
 
5.0 by what company?

I think the concern would be with the fifth gear with 5.0.. I think for 100kmh crusing with a .747 fifth gear (I think around there for the R/GSR G/box, not bothering to look up the spec sheet, so it may be off a bit) the engine speed will be 4K or so.. Don't think this is a concern for track cars, but for street cars.

so which the ratio to be used for 5th then for daily drivers?

I think the choice of FD ratios kind of depends on the powerband of the engine though.
if you have a lot of torque in the 7-9K range, then I think higher FD ratios can help you net faster times.

hopefully I'll get a gearbox at the end of december to test.
 
what sort of application are you doing? track? drag? autocross? no speed limit highways?

lowering the final drives are not an answer to all. u can always change your individual gears. or even use better tyres to for traction.

u have to try it to know since everyone has different setup and torque.

mainly street driving and sometimes drag. my 4.4 fd seems not ideal for drag.

guys...if wanna change to manual b series gearbox...whats the price for the auto gearbox can be sell or trade in?
 
guys, i always wondered in terms of the g/box housing size, is the eg9 say the y21 n the ek9 say the s4c the same size...... n would the s4c fit in the eg easily or some mods is needed?

actually i got this idea from the 92 DA6..... this model wif the vtec besar runs on a hydro tranny exactly like the EGs.... the rational is the mounting should b the same... i think so...

any1 done anything like this b4?
 
it can be done. but lots to do.
lot of ef small v do this kind of conversion. normally the just need to change the middle part of the gbox housing to fit the clutch pump n the fork. the other part use back original housing.
 
hmm... thanx bro... makes sense..... tt means the mounts is untouched rite? as in use back the ori 1 or still hafta mod?

how about the EK B16A non-LSD gearbox convert/modify to LSD gearbox ..
is it can be done..?? wat i meant is just add a another part to make it LSD...

Kaaz makes LSD for the Y21 g/box, I think it's around RM2.8-3K.
Clutch type, and will need to be rebuilt from time to time.

The difference is at the final drive holes to mount the LSD, I believe, so there's also the option of swapping final drives and using type R LSD. Not to sure though.
 
i actually have a LSD gearbox but recently got crack on the housing. anyway i can replace the housing only ? or is it expensive to change housing and better buy another gearbox ? how much if somebody have experience changing the gearbox housing ? Suggestion .. ?

Yeah, you can change the housing.
Depending on what final drive you use, some of the gearbox housing may need modification, like the Y21housing would not fit a 4.785FD without some modifications.

If near stock FD of 4.4/4.5, I think most b-series housing should fit.
 
Y21 gbox housing only need minor mod to fit type r lsd... regardless what fd u use...
getting a gearbox housing is cheaper than getting another gearbox... only a bit difficult to get...

the EG lsd different with EK lsd. yes at the fd holes to mount it to the lsd. and one more thing, most of the aftermarket final drive is available for EK lsd.. if not mistaken only 4.4 and 4.9 available for eg lsd.

TQ shiroi & hattech. cracked near the front mounting. i think mine is just a standard EG6 LSD. how much is the cost of the housing ?
