The Nurburgring time war continues and the latest claim top spot is the Gumpert Apollo Sport. It has officially set a new lap record for a road-legal production car at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife track as time and reported by German magazine Sport-Auto.
Piloting the Apollo Sport was 26 year old Florian Gruber on August 13th and the time set stands at 7m 11.57s. According to Sport-Auto, the previous record was held by Michael Duchting with a 7m 14.89s on a Donkervoort D8 RS06 in November 2005. However, this claim is still yet to be cleared up as the Radical SR8 in road trim claimed top spot around the ‘Ring in 6m55s.
The Audi-powered Gumpert Apollo Sport is powered by a 4.2-liter, bi-turbo V8 that generates 700hp. 0-200km/h is seen off in 8.9-seconds and top speed is rated at 360km/h.
Road tests for the Apollo Sport are scheduled for mid-September. A release date has not yet been announced.
