Very Very Expensive Crash: Rare Ferrari 250 TR Meets The Tyre Wall At Laguna Seca

Getting into a crash can be a painful affair, not only for your body but for your pocket as well no matter what car you drive. It only gets worse if you drive a exotic, painful if it’s a modern exotic, bordering on unbearably excruciating if it’s a classic exotic. Last weekend’s Monterey Hictoric race saw a number of very expensive classic and modern exotics but the one car that stole the show was an ultra expensive Ferrari 250 TR that smacked into a bunch of tires at the famed Laguna Seca.

This has turned out to be the crash the whole world heard about for a few reasons. Firstly, Ferrari only made 34 units of the 250 Testa Rossas from 1956 to 1961. Secondly, the car you see here – the 250 TR – is the preferred version of the 250 range and only 19 customer cars and 2 racers were built between 1958 and 1959. Recently a 1957 250 Testa Rossa was sold for US$12,200,000, making it the most expensive car – EVER. The 1958 TR that crashed last weekend is “only” worth about $8 million – that’s the third reason.

It’s undoubtedly a very painful moment for the owner and we feel his pain but analysing the damage, it’s not something that can’t be fixed though getting parts for this classic will be close to impossible and probably needs major customization. But, I would much rather be out there on a race track in this classic than letting it sit in the garage, it doesn’t matter if I risk crashing it, such a car deserves to be driven, not gawked at.
