Gumpert. Aside from its weird name, the car they made is not that much of a looker as well. But the Apollo is one of those cars that put function over form as it is insanely fast and lapped the Top Gear Test Track in 1:17.1, beating the Ascari A10 back in 2008. So when the news about Gumpert’s bankruptcy surfaces, needless to say we were pretty shocked.
But it seems that Gumpert may be making a comeback soon as it was just revealed that the brand had been purchased by a group of Hong Kong investors known as Ideal TeamVenture, the same company that bought De Tomaso just over six months ago.
And in line with the new management, Gumpert will no longer be known as what they were as it has been renamed to Apollo Automobili GmbH. But that is not the only new thing brought in by them as it is reported that they will also be revealing a “brand new Apollo” at the upcoming Geneva Motor show in March. From what we understand, this new model will be based on the original gumpert Apollo, but it is too soon to tell on its specifications.
Apollo Automobili also seems to have a surprise for their fans as on their official website, there is a timer that counts down to January 11th, which is about six days from now.
