Ever since Ford had taken the covers off their new GT, we knew that it is only a matter of time before the brand gets its wheels back into endurance racing. It did not take long for them to reveal the racing version of the GT and now, Ford is ready to reveal the driver line up that will represent the Blue Oval in the international endurance racing platforms.

For the 2016 World Endurance Championship (WEC), Ford Chip Ganassi Racing will be represented by Marino Franchitti, Stefan Mucke, Olivier Pla and Andy Priaulx. But the two cars Ford are fielding in the WEC are not the only ones as they will also be another two racing in the MSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

And to top it all off, all four cars will come together in June for the highlight of endurance races worldwide: the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which at the same time is exactly fifty years after the historic 1-2-3 finish against Ferrari.

“Make no mistake, we are racing to win. To compete at this level you need the best car, the best team and the best drivers, and we have selected Stefan, Olivier, Andy and Marino to drive the Ford GT to take on the best in the world,” said Dave Pericak, Ford Performance global director.

To give a quick introduction on the drivers, Marino Franchitti is not a stranger in endurance races and has raced at Le Mans no less than five times. Stefan Mucke has multiple WEC victories under his belt and Andy Priaulx is a three-time FIA World Touring Car champion, once won the Nurburgring 24 Hours, and had also stood on the podium at Le Mans.
