Although the production car has yet to hit the streets, many examples of the new Acura NSX has been making appearances all over the world, with the most recent being at the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. And the role given to the new hybrid supercar is an important one as it served as the pace car in this prestigious hill climb event.

The teasing game for the new NSX went on for years, until it was finally unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show this year. While Acura has yet to release the full specs of their new supercar, the role as a pace car might give a preview of what to expect from the new NSX.

This 550hp-ish SH-AWD supercar will put cars like the BMW i8, Audi R8 and Mercedes AMG GT in its sights and it is even interesting to know that Acura is using the Ferrari 458 Italia as a benchmark as well.

The new NSX is expected to hit the showrooms somewhere late this year or early next year. Apparently an optional track package and even a sharper Type R version is in the pipeline, but these hardcore versions are expected to show up later in the NSX’s life cycle.
