Nurburgring management now bans lap records and imposes speed limits as well!

Ring-2

If Top Gear was still on air with the trio still hosting ‘The News’ section, this bit of news would have definitely carved a big smile on James May’s face. It was recently announced that the management who runs the legendary Nurburgring had just decided that they are imposing a ban on record laps and certain parts of the circuits will bear a certain speed limit.

Sounds absurd? It definitely is and especially for Koenigsegg as they had already prepped their One:1 to run a record lap around the Green Hell. But the decision to impose such a rule was not made out of the blue as the management did have their own reason to do so.

“Following the tragic accident on 28 March 2015, the German motorsport association (DMSB) introduced speed limits for races at the Nürburgring. Capricorn NÜRBURGRING GmbH has decided to extend these speed limits to other activities on the Nordschleife, which is why record drives are currently not permitted on the Nürburgring Nordschleife,” said Carsten Schumacher, the CEO of Capricorn Nurburgring GmBH to CarScoops.

The tragic accident mentioned here was the crash that occurred during the VLN Endurance Championship where a Nissan GTR race car flipped and went over the fence, killing one spectator and injuring others.

As for the time being, the ban will take place and track management said that they will review the ban at the end of the year. But do you think that such action is fair even if manufacturers have rented out the entire track?
