Nobuhiro Tajima or famously known as ‘Monster’ Tajima is a synonymous name at Pikes Peak, especially when the 64-year-old had broken multiple records set at the legendary uphill climb. Usually seen piloting machines like the Suzuki Sport XL7 or the GoPro Monster Sport SX4, Monster had made the sudden switch to electric class back in 2012 but the guy is still as quick as lightning.
And for the 2015 edition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Monster Tajima will be sitting in a whole new machine that will take him to the top in no time. The machine in mention here is the new Tajima Rimac E-Runner Concept_One entered by Team APEV with MONSTER SPORT and Rimac Automobili.
The car is powered by four independent electric motors connected to each wheel while torque vectoring allows the car to adjust power to each specific wheel based on steering angle, speed, yaw rates and more. With a combined output of 1,475-horsepower, the new car has twice the output of what Monster drove back in 2014. Zerotohundred is dealt in just 2.2 seconds and reaching 200km/h only takes 5.4 seconds as the whole car only weighs 1,500kg.
“We are quite confident that Tajima Rimac E-Runner Concept_One will break previous year’s record. He is a great driver with tons of experience. Interesting fact – he raced Pikes Peak his first time a year before I was born. 28 years later, we work alongside to push the limits further,” said company founder Mate Rimac.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has been running since 1916 and the 20-kilometer course consists of 156 turns and climbs to an elevation of 1438 meters.
