If you could recall a while back, we reported that Alfa Romeo’s new Giulia is quite a capable machine as it was rumoured to lap the legendary Nurburgring in just 7 minutes and 43 seconds. With such a figure, the new Giulia puts cars like the Audi R8 V10 behind, and BMW’s new M4 even further back. But that was just the rumoured figure, which could lead to the possibility of the actual lap time being faster or slower. So which one do you thing the Giulia actually did?
Luckily the Alfa did not disappoint as this new performance sedan can easily trump against rivals like the Cadillac ATS-V, BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63 with a lap time of 7 minutes and 39 seconds! Lapping the 20.7-kilometer circuit four seconds faster than the rumour, this means that the Giulia Quadrifoglio is at par with machines like the Ferrari F430 Scuderia and is even faster than the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV.
Since the Giulia made its first public debut at Frankfurt, Alfa Romeo also proceeded by releasing some vital information as well. Instead of the earlier mentioned 3.0-liter engine, the Giulia actually gets a 2.9-liter V6 engine that produces 510-horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque with the help of turbocharging. Developed and built by Ferrari, the Giulia does a zerotohundred in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 307 km/h.
The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s platform gets a double wishbone suspension in the front and a multi-link setup in the rear. Combining aluminium and carbon fiber in the construction, the Quadrifoglio weighs just 1,524kg and has a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution. Power is all sent to the rear wheels and boy oh boy, it also comes with a manual transmission as well!
