The BMW M2 Coupe is the next upcoming performance model that will soon join the infamous M family and while the car will be arriving soon enough, there are still a lot yet to be known of it. That is about to change as before Friedrich Nitschke retires from his position as Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW GmBH next year, he had shared a couple of juicy details of the M2 Coupe.

Powering this new performance coupe is an inline-six 3.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, but bear in mind that it will not be the same unit as the ones powering the new M3 and M4. Instead, it is an all-new engine based on the B57 engine which will be showcased in the new 7-Series set to be unveiled next year.

Designated as the S57 B30, the engine could produce an output of about 400-horsepower and Nitschke said that the achieving such output is not that hard as it is turbocharged. However, they also need to make sure to not pack too much power into the M2 as it is already lingering in the M4’s territory of 425-horsepower.

Offered as standard with a six-speed manual transmission and an optional seven-speed dual-clutch auto, zerotohundred is reportedly achieved in 4.4 seconds and has a limited top speed of 250km/h.

While there are yet any official or final images of the M2 Coupe, the guys from Autocar did a very impressive rendering based on the spyshots seen before. What do you think of it?
