BMW Group Malaysia today had introduced to the local market the latest generation of their X5 SUV. This third-generation F15 X5 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) is here to continue the legacy set by the previous generations, and comes in both diesel and petrol variants.
“With the new X5 and upcoming new models to be introduced this year, we are positive of achieving double-digit growth this year,” said BMW Group Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Gerhard Plis.
The two variants offered are the diesel xDrive30d and the petrol xDrive35i. The cheaper xDrive30d is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six turbocharged diesel engine, pushing out 258-horsepower and 560Nm of torque. This gives the heavyweight SUV a zerotohundred time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 230km/h.
The X5 xDrive35i on the other hand has a 3.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that has a higher output of 306-horsepower and 400Nm of torque. This variant offers a thicker punch as it has a faster zerotohundred time of 6.5 seconds and a higher top speed of 250km/h.
Even with such performance numbers, BMW claims that both the X5 offers a decent fuel economy run. The xDrive30d variant averages about 6.2 liters per 100km, while the more powerful xDrive35i does 8.5 liters per 100km. Both the variants are equipped with a standard eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. Also introduced to the X5 is the Adaptive Comfort Suspension Package, but it is only offered to the petrol variant.
The rear compartment now offers more space compared to the previous models. With the rear seats up, one could get 650 liters of boot space and a massive 1,870 liters when the seats are brought down. The BMW F15 X5 xDrive30d comes with a price tag of RM 558,800 without insurance, and for the more powerful xDrive35i? RM 598,800, also without insurance.
