Back in 2012, Peugeot’s own presentation at the Paris Motor Show is not exactly what one would call as eye-catching, especially considering that the show is in their own backyard. But it seems that they are ready to redeem themselves as Peugeot has already confirmed the appearance of a sportier 308 GT and an advanced 208 Hybrid Air concept. And accompanying these two will be another concept in the form of a crossover.

Called the Quartz, this crossover concept is not like any other as it packs a 500-horsepower drivetrain. Despite having only a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, it produces 270-horsepower from turbocharging and direct-injection. The rest of the power comes from an electric motor rated at 114-horsepower. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the combination of these two power the front wheels. There is another electric motor also rated at 114-horsepower propelling the rear wheels.

The Quartz comes with three modes to choose from; electric, petrol or hybrid. It comes with a lithium-ion battery that is situated in the middle of the vehicle, allowing the Quartz to stroll in an electric-only range of about 50km.

Handling-wise, the Quartz is equipped with MacPherson struts in the front and a multi-link setup in the rear. An air suspension setup is used and it is able to automatically adjust itself according to the data received from both satellite positioning and the camera system scanning the upcoming terrain. The 23-inch wheels features carbon fiber flaps that optimize aerodynamic flow and assists in channelling air to cool the brakes.
