According to sources, Mercedes-Benz is developing a sub performance brand to be positioned below their well known AMG branding, and will be called AMG Sport. Indeed, this can be seen as a much needed counter against BMW’s M Performance and Audi’s Sport line of cars.
So, what differentiates the AMG Sport models with the regular bread and butter models Mercedes sells? Well for starters, the AMG Sport is likely include AMG’s light weight alloy wheels and sporty AMG line aero kits. The interior is also expected to be AMG treated as well.
Besides the unique styling cues, the AMG Sport models will also benefit from Merdeces-Benz’s bespoke chassis tuning and electronic system. The engines, both in diesel and petrol variants, will also be uprated.
The first AMG Sport model to come out of the Bremen factory is expected to be the C450 AMG. Powered by a 3.0L V6 engine, it is expected to produce around 367bhp. The regular C350 produces a maximum of 302bhp, while the extreme C63 AMG produces 451bhp. The upcoming C450 AMG sits comfortably between them. Unlike the C63 AMG’s rear-wheel-drive-only option, the C450 AMG is expected have Mercedes Benz’s 4MATIC all wheel drive as an option.
Mercedes Benz will continuously expand the AMG Sport line, to includes models from A, C, E, E and S class range.
Do stay tuned for more news on the Mercedes Benz C450 AMG as it is expected to be unveiled during this year’s Paris Motor Show.
